The ezimerchant crew wants you to focus all your thoughts on how you can increase sales, what products you can offer and what goals you’re going to achieve. What we don’t want you thinking is ‘how do I work this site’, ‘what am I supposed to do here?’ If you’re scratching your head wondering how to use our services then we haven’t achieved our ‘don’t make me think’ goal.
All our interfaces are designed, tested and adjusted to make them so obvious that no thought is required. We don’t have a glossary of terms or ‘this process explained’ section because we believe it should all be obvious.
As you go through the process of creating buy buttons, setting up an online store with us, or managing and adjusting your site, you’ll find it straight forward, easy to understand and surprisingly quick.
For us that’s the cornerstone of true usability.
Insist on great usability
Most websites you interact with on a daily basis are applications. Facebook, Twitter, eBay and Google search are examples of web applications. Accounting is moving online with Xero. So it is inevitable that the amount of time we all spend in online applications is increasing all the time.
Our precious time should not be spent fighting with websites, it should be spent with family and friends, so we have a right to insist on great usability. We constantly challenge ourselves to improve usability and encourage our customers to challenge us too. You can do so by providing feedback privately, posting feedback publicly, making a feature request, or giving us a call.
Usability should be a priority for all web developers because everybody benefits. We challenge our peers and competitors to take a "Don't make me think" approach to web development. A great place to start is the Steve Krug book titled "Don't make me think". It is required reading for the entire ezimerchant crew.
